Ceramic Dildos: My review of the Deeper Blue ceramic dildo
I've got something new for you today, let's talk about ceramic dildos. To be specific, let's discuss the ceramic dildo gifted to me by Deeper Blue Ceramics. In my previous articles on sex toy materials, I've alluded to less-common materials like ceramic. The primary issue was that I hadn't found a manufacturer that aligned with my values. Specifically about body-safe materials and ethical manufacturing. That all changed when I was introduced to the fabulous creations made by this local company. Today, I'm going to give you my full report on my experience with this ceramic dildo.
All products recommended are personally selected by me, Elaine S. Turner. I choose them and genuinely believe in them. However, this article may contain affiliate links. Isn't ceramic porous?
Yes, many types of ceramic are porous. But there is an exception to every rule.
Let me break it down for you.
The most common material you see in sex toys is definitely silicone. That's because, when held to specific manufacturing standards, it can be totally non-porous.
I only really recommend using non-porous materials for many reasons:
They're less likely to deteriorate over time.
Pores are where nasty bacteria, viruses, and juices hide.
Non-porous toys can be completely sanitized.
They're safe to share with other partners after being thoroughly cleaned.
Those are a few reasons I insist on high-quality, non-porous sex toys. This fabulous new dildo I was gifted is actually non-porous.
Yes, ceramics are famous for being porous. But think about it.
You definitely have something ceramic in your home or workplace. What about that coffee cup you're drinking from?
That plate you're eating off of?
That vase full of water sitting beside you?
These types of ceramics have all been treated with a food-grade glaze. That means they're non-toxic, non-allergenic, environmentally friendly, and safe to use over and over again.
That makes this product safe to use on and in your body.
About the Deeper Blue ceramic dildo
Having met some wonderful people working for Deeper Blue, I can vouch that every piece is hand-made with love, care, and quality assurance. While this particular product isn't my aesthetic taste, it is a unique addition to my sex toy collection.
These dildos are made, like most things ceramic, on an actual pottery wheel.
Yes, shaped by hand, just like the famous scene in Ghost.
After being formed, they're treated with the food-grade glaze we discussed earlier. Then the ceramic dildo was twice fired in their kiln to be totally body safe.
Since they're all made by such a small group of people, they're done sustainably. They ensure that you're taking care of the earth and environment with every product created and purchased.
Another important note is that you can use these dildos with any lubricant. Silicone-based, oil-based, whatever you've got on your shelf will do! None of that reading-the-label-before use for this hunky boy!
How to take care of your ceramic dildo
Yes, all sex toys require cleaning, care, and proper storage. When you do so, they can last for years to come. These ceramic dildos are much like your grandmother's vase you inherited. They're designed to last a lifetime and beyond. But only if you treat them with love and care, much like how they were created.
To take care of your ceramic dildo, you must rinse it in warm (not hot) water and use a little hand or dish soap. Alternatively, you can put it in the dishwasher!
Honestly, that's it.
Personally, I still use my sex toy cleaners on this ceramic dildo.
As usual, try to keep it dry during storage and avoid knocking it into hard surfaces. Other than that, they're really sturdy and resilient!
If you get a knick or notice a sharp edge, it's best to avoid using it. While ceramic dildos are designed to be strong, they can still break, so don't test your luck!
My thoughts on the Deeper Blue ceramic dildo
I was initially skeptical when I started researching ceramic dildos. As you likely know, I'm wary of most sex toys for good reasons.
But after seeing the Deeper Blue pieces at Sydney Sexpo 2022, I was immediately intrigued. They're made to be beautiful and functional.
The packaging
When my package arrived, I couldn't have been much more excited.
Coming locally from Canberra, I only had to wait a few days to unwrap my newest addition.
It came in a nondescript cardboard box marked "fragile."
When I opened the box, I was surprised to see the toy was further wrapped in additional cardboard. This was done to ensure that my new dildo arrived in its intended state, one piece.
Other than the carefully and lovingly packaged dildo, there were a few other surprises!
A "Care Details" card that patiently explains how to ensure your dildo lasts a lifetime.
A square card talks about the environmental focus of the company.
And finally, an About Us card that tells the company's story and why their product is so fantastic. In the corner is a loving, handwritten note saying, "Hope you love it, Elaine! X Amy"
I absolutely adore a personal touch when getting products from small companies.
The dildo itself
Peeking out of its cardboard wrapping was my newest friend. I've named him Claus.
Claus is a hearty dildo, measuring about 6.5 inches from root to tip.
On the unfinished flared base (making it safe for anal!) is a stamp from Deeper Blue, reminding me that a real person created this with their own hands.
I absolutely love that.
The ceramic dildo isn't completely smooth.
Much like a ribbed condom, it has a texture to the surface. This texture may not seem important to the untrained eye, but it is an incredibly thoughtful touch.
When a dildo has that type of texture helps stimulate the V-spot during insertion. Alternatively, it can stimulate the anal opening if you're using it for backdoor play.
Much like a traditional-looking penis, it has a bulbous head. Also, a shiny glaze. I'm staring at my reflection in Claus as I write this!
Claus has a sturdiness to him and a very comfortable weight as well. I could use it for self-defense in a moment of panic!
Actual use of the ceramic dildo
I have to admit I delayed using this internally for a while. That is only because I generally don't use insertable toys during solo sex. But I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this toy!
Paired with my favorite, Agape lube by Jo, it was a remarkable sex toy journey.
Insertion was not only comfortable but, dare I say it, delightful! It didn't have any issues with pube interference I was anticipating.
The thing that separates this ceramic dildo from others is the hardness of the dildo itself. Generally, silicone is pretty firm, but composites, made to feel realistic, are quite bendy. This allowed for precise control over where I was pressing. It makes this dildo ideal for targeted G-spot and A-spot pleasure. The ridges made for excellent V-spot stimulation as well.
When paired with a water-based lube, it slides in and out much more quickly than many silicone-based counterparts.
For external use, this was great too! Vulva massage is often ignored or not even considered a foreplay option. But for external vulva massage in the lead-up to penetration, I'd give this an 8/10. Just because you know your girl loves vibrations. In the future, I'd also try to pair this toy with a vibrating cock ring to get the best of all worlds.
The only slight criticism I have is the same for many sex toys. Where's the handle? Yes, I'm lazy, but most people are. I think including a handle of some kind could be great for future products. But again, I love Claus for exactly who he is already.
Bonus use: Arthritis pain
I have rheumatoid arthritis. And one of the only things that brings me pain relief is pressing very firmly on pressure points in my hands and feet. Using this dildo as a massage tool has been life-changing.
I know, I know, it's not its intended purpose but save your judgment for someone else.
It works really well with hands and feet but also along the back. Rubbing Claus along my shoulder blades and neck has brought me and my partner excellent pain relief.
So if you have any pain or knots in your back, this is definitely an "add to cart" moment.
Conclusion
I would 10/10 recommend buying this dildo to anyone who:
Enjoys internal sensations during masturbation
Anyone with pain issues or rheumatoid arthritis
People who want to have a centerpiece in their sex toy collection
Since a minority of women experience internal orgasms, it is still an excellent option for containment. Doing that with simultaneous clitoral stimulation - whether by a vibrator or vibrating cock ring- will definitely make for some high-grade masturbation.
So a huge thanks to Deeper Blue Ceramics for sending me Claus. Let me know if you enjoy alternative sex toy materials as well!
