Part 2 of Anal 101: How to Douche - A step-by-step guide to anal douching

how to douche

Anal sex is a topic filled with mystery and poor information. So is anal douching. While it isn’t 100% necessary to douche before starting with anal play, it can help you feel clean, sexy, and ready to go. Cleaning yourself can help reduce anxiety around anal play. Stress or concern about anal play is very common. Learning what you need to relax and enjoy yourself will be helpful along your anal pleasure journey.

The easiest way to do anal douching is only a few steps:

(1) grab your douche, lubricant, and get the bathroom to yourself.

(2) Fill the bulb of your douche with warm (not hot) water and lubricate the tip of the nozzle.

(3) Slowly and gently insert the nozzle into your anus and squeeze the liquid inside of you.

(4) Clench down and hold the water in until it feels “right.”

(5) Sit down on the toilet and release the water. If it comes out clean, you’re good to go!

(6) Take a shower and make sure you soap up your backside thoroughly.

What is anal douching?

Anal douching is using a douche to clean out your anal canal, typically done before anal play.

how to douche

An anal douche is the most popular anal cleaning item you’ll come across. It has a small bulb that is attached to a nozzle specially designed to help clean you out.

When trying anal douching, realize you don’t need (and shouldn’t use) that much liquid. It usually only requires about half a cup to three-quarters of a cup of water each time.

If you love anal penetration and douche frequently, it may be cost-efficient to get a shower attachment. These come with some risk of high water pressure and high heat, so use with caution.

Anal enemas are slightly different in that the nozzle is attached to a bag rather than a bulb. They tend to be much larger and more challenging to find.

Is anal douching necessary?

That’s going to depend on you and what anal activities you’re going to participate in.

Anal play gets a bad rap because of the residual fecal matter that may or may not be involved. All you can do to prevent contamination or cleanliness concerns is prepare as best you can!

If you’re engaging in solo-anal-play, then douching may not be necessary. Just a quick shower and gently inserting a finger into your anus (only water, no soap, please!) to clean it, and the surrounding area should be enough.

The same goes for analingus, rimming, or any oral to anal contact.

Toys such as a butt plug only go an inch or two in, so you don’t need to clean out your entire anus to prepare.

If you’re preparing for full penetration by a partner, it may be considerate to do. Take the time to clean yourself out before engaging in anal sex.

How to douche your butt - step-by-step

Prepare by eating light the day before. Eating salads, fruit, and other high-fiber foods can help you pass a solid stool before penetration.

On the day of anal play, stay away from any high-risk or oily foods that may cause stomach disruption.

Once you’ve emptied your bowels, you’re ready to douche!

Step 1: Gather your supplies

You’ll need:

  • Private time in the bathroom

  • An anal douche - you can buy these at any adult store and most pharmacies

  • Lubricant - preferably silicone-based (if your douche contains silicone, then use water-based lube)

  • A towel

Step 2: Prepare your douche

If your douche came with any liquid of its own, throw it away or save it for later. Usually, douches come with a fluid used for constipation and will encourage you to pass fecal matter. Probably the opposite of what you want to achieve here.

Fill up the bulb of your douche entirely with warm water. It should be slightly below body temperature.

You won’t need to use all of the water.

You want to avoid pushing any air into your anus. So, fill the bulb and the tip as best you can.

Step 3: Lube it up and slide-in

how to douche

Generously lubricate the tip of the douche. A good rule of thumb is that if you think it’s enough lube, add some more. Your anus doesn’t create any lubrication on its own, so help it along.

Then you can lie on your side or do this standing up. It’s up to you.

Slowly insert the tip of the douche as far as you can comfortably penetrate.

Then, slowly squeeze in as much water as you can comfortably hold.

If there is additional water left in the douche, that’s okay! You only need about a half cup, maybe slightly more.

Step 4: Hold on tight!

Squeeze your anus tight and hold the water inside of you. Your body will tell you when it is ready.

Sit over the toilet for about 3-5 minutes and allow all of the water to pass out. It may take the full five minutes or even more for this to happen. It is crucial not to rush things and let your body do what it knows how to do.

If you rush things, you may wind up making a mess during penetration later. Which is precisely what you’re trying to avoid.

Step 5: Let it Go

Check the water you passed in the toilet. If it is clear and clean, you’re ready to move to step 6.

If you notice an abundance of fecal matter or dark water in the toilet, repeat steps 2-4.

You can repeat the douching process a few times. However, it is not recommended.

Your anus has a very delicate lining filled with helpful bacteria that you don’t want to lose.
So, if you douche 3-4 times and the water still isn’t clear, then save the anal penetration for another day.

Step 6: Scrub a dub dub

how to douche

If the water you passed is clear, then hop in the shower. Clean yourself as you usually would, paying particular attention to your backside.

You can use soap on the outside of your anus but be careful not to use it inside. Again, you don’t want to wash or disrupt your anal lining.

Insert a single wet or lubricated finger into your anus. Gently move it around to clean it out as much as possible.

You can even do a “sniff test” to make sure that you’re as clean as possible.

While that may sound like a lot, it’s pretty straightforward.

Just keep in mind that you can still make an unexpected mess as much preparation that you undertake. So keep towels, wet wipes, and other similar materials nearby. That way you can clean up quickly if there is an accident. It’s not only natural but expected the first few times you play.

You do not need to master the art of anal douching to move on to anal training. Again, not everyone is bothered to douche, and that is generally okay.
